Leon Edwards has some advice for Colby Covington.

Former United States President, Donald Trump, has been seen at multiple Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events since he was in the middle of his term, attending UFC 244 in November 2019. Last seen at UFC 295 in New York City last month (Nov. 5, 2023), apparently, he’ll also be at UFC 296 in Las Vegas, supporting the Welterweight title challenger, Covington, this weekend (Sat., Dec. 16, 2023).

It’s no secret that Covington is a big Trump supporter, as evidenced by his attire during media day today (Weds., Dec. 13, 2023). The British Welterweight champion, Edwards, however, is as perplexed as he could by the whole relationship between his opponent and the politician.

“I think that whole scenario is weird, that’s what I make of it,” Edwards laughed at UFC 296 media day. “I don’t get the fascination with another man. I don’t get it. I know he used to be president and stuff, but he’s no longer the president. So, I don’t get what’s going on. It’s just weird. Why he picked him just to be a character off the back of him. I just don’t get it.

“Trump won’t wrap nothing around his waist because he ain’t getting the belt,” he continued. “Trump has been there before when he’s lost. So, Trump can’t fight for him. He just needs to grow up and go get a girlfriend or something.”

Edwards will be the first man to welcome Covington back to action since “Chaos” defeated Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision at UFC 272 in March 2022. As for “Rocky,” Edwards has since captured and defended his title with back-to-back wins against Kamaru Usman.
