NOT AGAIN! Covington Doubles Down With More Insults About Edwards’ Father

Just when you thought Colby Covington couldn’t do anything more to hurt his image the welterweight contender goes and doubles down on his insult about Leon Edwards’ deceased father.

Covington, who will meet Edwards in a welterweight title fight later tonight (Sat., Dec. 16, 2023) at UFC 296 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, made headlines earlier this week when he attacked Edwards’ late father during Thursday’s pre-fight press conference (watch HERE). People are used to hearing Covington spew out trash talk by the mouth load, but this was an entirely new level of bad sportsmanship.

Fortunately for Covington, his comment struck a nerve with Edwards. The UFC welterweight champion was clearly upset and even tried to attack Covington during the press conference. Edwards’ demeanor at Friday’s ceremonial weigh ins and final staredown suggested that he didn’t forget one word Covington said.

Oddly enough, Covington seemed to tell Edwards during their ceremonial weigh-in faceoff that “I was in character.” UFC actually went back into the UFC 296 “Embedded” episode and deleted the comment as if they didn’t want to give Covington’s schtick away.

Covington, who will be fighting for the undisputed UFC welterweight title for a third time this weekend, had a chance to talk back his comments about Edwards’ dad in a recent interview. Sadly, Covington did the complete opposite and actually doubled down on his insults.

“What about all the victims of the harm that Leon’s father did to them”? asked Covington in a chat with AG Fight. “He was a sex trafficker. He was a drug lord. He killed people. The guy’s a scumbag. Why would I feel bad for that? I have no sympathy for that guy. What about all the victim’s families that live on right now that have to live through all of things he did to them? How he tormented those people.

“So no I don’t feel bad for him. The truth hurts and that’s why people hate me. I’m not afraid to say the truth and you know the truth is what always stings the worst.”
