‘I Would Love To See Tony Retire’

Tony Ferguson’s historic Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) run could be over.

Ferguson suffered his seventh straight loss last night at UFC 296 (Sat., Dec. 16, 2023) when he lost a lopsided unanimous decision to Paddy Pimblett from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “El Cucuy” has tied B.J. Penn for the longest consecutive losing streak UFC history.

After the event, UFC CEO Dana White spoke with the media during the UFC 296 post-fight press conference (watch here) and recommended the former interim Lightweight champion call it a career.

“I would love to see Tony retire,” White said. “Listen, when you talk about a skid, you look at the guys he’s fought, and that plays a factor into it. And how did he look right up until he lost. Tonight, Tony looked like he should retire.”

Once the boss says it is a rap, it usually means it is, but a few months ago, Ferguson scoffed at White’s thought of retirement by saying, “I don’t want to retire; it’s not in my f—king thought process.”

Hopefully, he will walk that back after tonight’s lopsided loss to Pimblett.

If Ferguson is forced to retire, he will leave an incredible legacy as one of the most violent fighters ever and end with a 25-10 record.
