Video: Can Leon Edwards reach Georges St-Pierre’s UFC welterweight title defense record?

Contrary to the recent trend of hunting for a UFC title in a second division, Leon Edwards wants to do the traditional thing.

Edwards recorded his second title defense by defeating Colby Covington in a ho-hum unanimous decision at UFC 296. It was his second appearance of 2023, following his first title defense in a rematch against Kamaru Usman in March at UFC 286.

By now, some of the other UFC champions would have been calling for opportunities for a title fight in another division to achieve champ-champ status, but not Edwards. “Rocky” currently only wants to chase the divisional title defense record (9) which is held by Georges St-Pierre.

How realistic is Edwards’ goal? There are a few very tough welterweight challengers at his doorstep, such as Belal Muhammad, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Ian Machado Garry. Could Edwards navigate his way into the record books?

That’s what our “Spinning Back Clique” of Mike Bohn, Danny Segura, and Brian “Goze” Garcia discussed along with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.
