Michael Chandler: Michael Page got ‘horrible matchup’ in Kevin Holland for UFC debut

Michael Chandler thinks Michael Page wasn’t done any favors for his UFC debut.

Chandler will soon see a fellow former Bellator star join him in the UFC roster, as MVP signed with the Las-Vegas based promotion earlier this month, having fought out his contract with Bellator. Page debuts against Kevin Holland in March at UFC 299 in Miami.

Despite this booking catching the attention of many, Chandler doesn’t like this fight for Page.

“I think Kevin Holland is a horrible matchup for him,” Chandler told Steve-O. “I think Kevin Holland probably beats him. But I like ‘MVP’ as a person. I think he’s a cool dude.”

Both Chandler and Page share a similar career trajectory. Although Chandler achieved champion status and Page didn’t, the two fought over a decade in Bellator in their respective weight classes and became some of the biggest names in the promotion’s history. They also both left Bellator as free agents and signed with the UFC in their mid 30’s.

Chandler likes Page personally, but fighting wise, it’s a different story.

“Michael ‘Venom’ Page, I’ve got mixed feelings about him,” Chandler said. “I don’t like his style. I think it’s annoying. He just kind of moves around like that drunken warrior karate style. But he’s got some ridiculous knockouts. When I say ridiculous knockouts, the dude’s got some ridiculous spinning kicks and back elbows. He’s broken people’s faces and all kinds of (finishes). He’s a highlight-reel kind of guy.”
