Johnny Walker weighs in on SBG Ireland teammate Conor McGregor’s move to 185 lbs

After months of speculation, it now looks like Conor McGregor‘s UFC return is underway. According to recent reports, the Irishman will make his first appearance inside the octagon for the first time since breaking his leg in 2021.

Following his huge announcement, Michael Chandler welcomed the stipulations ‘The Notorious’ put on the bout and was happy with the June 29 date. Now, fellow SBG Ireland teammate Johnny Walker has spoken out on the news.

Walker sat down with The Schmo to discuss Conor McGregor’s forthcoming fight. The Brazilian expressed his excitement for the matchup which will reportedly get underway in five months, despite the doubts.

“It’s very exciting news. Everyone can’t wait to see ‘The Notorious’ come back, you know,” Walker said during a short interview with The Schmo. “I can’t wait to see that guy. I’m a big fan as well, you know.”

“It’s going to be a big boys fight. Exciting. 185 is heavy boys, so I want to see how they’re going to perform.”

Johnny Walker then gave some insight into how Conor McGregor is handling the extra weight, insisting he looks powerful against the bigger athletes in the gym.

“Yeah, he’s strong, bro. He’s a big guy. He’s strong, he’s heavy, he’s very technical. So, I’m very excited for this fight.

Many speculated which weight Conor McGregor would return at. Since suffering the career-altering injury at UFC 264, McGregor has been bulking up and is ready to compete at the fourth weight class throughout his established career.

What’s next for Johnny Walker?

After the premature ending to their meeting last time out, Johnny Walker is set to return to action in the immediate rematch against Magomed Ankalaev.

The light heavyweight titans will collide in a UFC Fight Night headliner on January 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

If the South American can overcome the tough test ahead of him, he already has plans for what’s next. Walker is intent on putting on a good display later this month before ideally calling out his fellow countryman and current 205 lbs champion, Alex Pereira.
