Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz have found themselves linked to each other once again.

History was made in multiple ways in what was the year of “Gamebred,” 2019. The then-resurgent Welterweight contender, Masvidal, returned from a stint on a South American Survivor-like gameshow, Exatlon, and felt like bodying some of his fellow combatants.

Masvidal’s streak that year began with a big main event knockout of Darren Till in London before he broke the record for fastest Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) knockout at five seconds against Ben Askren. To cap off the stretch, Masvidal was crowned the inaugural Baddest Motherf—ker (BMF) champion when he scored a third round technical knockout against Nate Diaz. Fast forward to 2024, and a rematch between the pair is reportedly in the works in boxing.

Not yet official, opening odds have been released per Sportsbetting.ag (h/t MMA Fighting) for the would-be rematch that favors Masvidal at -325 to Diaz’s +250 underdog. The match for Masvidal would end his combat sports retirement that began immediately after his unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in April 2023.

Diaz, on the other hand, made his professional boxing debut this past August 2023. Unfortunately for the one-time UFC Lightweight title challenger, Diaz suffered a unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul in their Dallas, Texas showdown (watch highlights). In his appearance prior, Diaz fought out his UFC contract with a fourth round guillotine choke of Tony Ferguson at UFC 279 in September 2022 (watch highlights). The win snapped a two-fight losing streak that dated back to Diaz’s unanimous decision win over Anthony Pettis in August 2019.

Outside of his in-cage or ring ventures, Masvidal has stayed close to the fight game throughout his retirement, running his Gamebred Bareknuckle promotion, where he’s held several boxing and gloveless mixed martial arts (MMA) events.
