Michael Chandler tried to warn us…

UFC CEO Dana White recently announced the first championship showdown for the upcoming UFC 300 pay-per-view (PPV) card, a strawweight collision between reigning 115-pound titleholder Zhang Weili and fellow Chinese national Yan Xiaonan.

It’s a great fight, but fans were blowing up UFC on social media for the “worst announcement of all time.” Partly because UFC 300 does not yet have a marquee main event after this promise (from White himself) of an “insane” PPV fight card.

But mostly because MMA fans are awful on just about every level.

Former UFC welterweight Nate Diaz, who promised to make his Octagon return after he was done chasing that paper in the “sweet science,” has volunteered to headline the UFC 300 event, arguing that his Conor McGregor rematch was good enough to top UFC 200.

It was … right up until “Notorious” pulled the plug.

Fans have been clamoring for a rubber match between the two rivals after they split a pair of fights back in 2016. McGregor, 35, wanted to wait until it was “special” before agreeing to another fight against the 38 year-old Diaz and UFC 300 would certainly fit the bill.

Diaz agrees:

Fans were divided over the tweet, with some suggesting that a “washed fighter” like Diaz had no business headlining a card of this magnitude, while others insisted a long-overdue McTrilogy would “save” the UFC 300 lineup from becoming a major disappointment.
