Nate Diaz calls for Conor McGregor trilogy at UFC 300

There have been many great rivalries since the beginning of the UFC’s rise, but arguably none are bigger than the feud between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.

Amid ‘The Notorious’s ascension in the sport, he came face-to-face with a gritty Diaz who handed him his first defeat in over five years and his subsequent first inside the octagon. Now almost eight years after their last meeting, they could be matched up again.

Nate Diaz has taken to social media to call for his shot at Conor McGregor with rumors of the Irishman’s return drawing closer. Insisting he was originally booked to compete at UFC 200, Diaz staked his claim at being the main event for UFC 300 instead.

“I was supposed to headline UFC 200,” Diaz said referring to his canceled bout against McGregor back in 2016. “Headline UFC 300 would be better.”

Following Nate Diaz’s submission victory over Conor McGregor, the pair were supposed to meet for their immediate rematch at UFC 200.

The matchup fell through after a contract dispute between the promotion and McGregor, but they did eventually meet for their second clash at UFC 202 just one month later.

After a five-round war which is considered one of the greatest fights in the history of the sport, the Dublin native came out victorious over the TUF 5 winner via unanimous decision.

Conor McGregor would then go on to deliver one of the best title-challenging performances of all time with his knockout win over Eddie Alvarez in his next outing.

Despite years of speculation, Diaz and McGregor haven’t fought since their aforementioned rematch.

While the iconic UFC 300 card is still missing some real star power and would benefit from a Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz trilogy, it looks unlikely to happen.

The former two-division UFC champion recently announced to the world that his next bout will take place during International Fight Week.

McGregor will reportedly meet Michael Chandler in the center of the cage on June 29. The two have been going back and forth for some months and may finally get to settle their differences.
