Ronda Rousey casts doubt on Vince McMahon’s TKO/WWE resignation

Vince McMahon shocked the world earlier this week when he announced he would resign from his position as a TKO board of directors member and executive chairmanship.

McMahon is one of the leading people who grew the WWE into the powerhouse it is today. Despite that, many believe since he has been less hands-on in his approach, professional wrestling has seen an uprise in entertainment, so recent news of his resignation has gone down well with countless fans.

While his comments were generally taken at face value, one star who isn’t convinced by his statement is Ronda Rousey. The UFC icon took to social media to voice her concerns at the news.

“Bruce Prichard is basically Vince’s avatar, if he’s still around Vince still has a hand in the business,” Rousey said following McMahon’s resignation. “Vince was still running things throughout Bruce when he was ‘gone’ before.”

Ronda Rousey last competed inside a WWE ring at SummerSlam 2023. After a 7-minute affair, she was defeated by Shayna Baszler and hasn’t returned to the WWE Universe since—though she has made appearances for various pro wrestling promotions.

Rumors began circulating about ‘Rowdy’s’ potential return to  MMA, with UFC 300 being the place many expected her to compete. Those rumors have since been shot down by Dana White who insisted no former stars will be fighting on the card.

Why did Vince McMahon resign from his position of power at TKO Group Holdings?

After TKO formed the merger between the WWE and the UFC, Vince McMahon was appointed the Executive Chairman and board member.

His position recently came under attack after a sex-trafficking lawsuit was filed against him, which subsequently led to him resigning from his position with the business.

In a recent statement to Deadline, Vince McMahon told the world of his resignation.

“I stand by my prior statement that Ms. Grant’s lawsuit is replete with lies, obscene made-up instances that never occurred, and is a vindictive distortion of the truth.”

“Out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effective immediately.”
