Kennedy Nzechukwu won’t underestimate ‘old dog’ Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Fight Night 239

LAS VEGAS – Just because Ovince Saint Preux is 40, doesn’t mean that Kennedy Nzechukwu is expecting an easy win at UFC Fight Night 239 on Saturday.

“Ovince Saint Preux’s a vet,” Nzechukwu told MMA Junkie and other reporters at Wednesday’s media day. “He’s been around a long time and is the old dog. He has a whole bunch of skills up his sleeve. I can’t take him lightly. These vets have so many tricks, and one thing you can’t purchase is experience. That’s something I have to be dialled in, tuned in and mind my P’s and Q’s.”

Nzechukwu (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) meets Saint Preux (26-17 MMA, 14-12 UFC) in a light heavyweight bout on the main card of this weekend’s event at the UFC Apex (ESPN+). It’s a key fight for both men, with Saint Preux looking to prove he can still hang with up-and-coming talent at 205 pounds, and Nzechukwu looking to add the name of an established veteran with many records to his name on the resume.

For Nzechukwu, it’s important to not only follow the game plan laid out by his team at Fortis MMA, but also enjoy himself while doing it.

“I’m trying to not just show up, but show out and have fun,” Nzechukwu said. “This is not just a job, this is what I chose, the path I chose, so I need to just have fun.

“It’s going to be an explosive fight because he’s very explosive. He has a lot of fast-twitch muscle fibres so he likes to explode into things. My skill is just pressure. I’ve got to merge the pressure with the skill and grab the victory.”
