Diego Lopes wanted Sodiq Yusuff – and at UFC 300, he gets what he wants

LAS VEGAS – Diego Lopes had a feeling he might be standing across from Sodiq Yusuff some day. In fact, he requested it.

“I really like the opportunity. I like the fight because he’s a tough guy – one of the best guys in the division,” Lopes said at Wednesday’s media day for UFC 300 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). “I said this: If you want to be a champion, you have to fight the biggest guys, the toughest guys in the division, and last year, during an interview, people asked me, who would you like to fight? I said Sodiq or Alex Caceres, and there you go. They got me him, so I’m very happy about the opportunity.”

Lopes (23-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and Yusuff (13-3 MMA, 6-2 UFC) fight in a featherweight bout on the UFC 300 prelims Saturday T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
