Figueiredo (22-3-1 MMA, 11-3-1 UFC) and Garbrandt (14-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) get things started with a bang in this bantamweight battle of former champions. … Former flyweight champion Figueiredo enters his second bout at bantamweight since moving up in weight. In December, he passed his first 135-pound test by picking up an impressive unanimous decision over Rob Font. … Former bantamweight champion Garbrandt has seen his hand raised in consecutive fights. Last March, “No Love” won an important unanimous decision vs. Trevin Jones, and then followed that performance with a first-round walkoff KO of Brian Kelleher in December – after which he called out Figueiredo, ultimately leading to this matchup.

Although Figueiredo is a former champion of the flyweight division, “Deus Da Guerra” doesn’t seem to be having trouble fitting in at 135 pounds. Whereas Garbrandt, who briefly flirted with flyweight, appears to be getting his groove back at in his natural weight class.

Garbrandt can make this a frustrating fight for Figueiredo with his movement and countering sensibilities, but I suspect that the opportunistic Brazilian can find a finish before the final bell.
