There’s no crying in baseball … and there’s no timeouts in MMA.

That appears to be the policy of reigning light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who got kicked in his Brazilian bean bag at UFC 300 last Sat. night (April 13, 2024) in Las Vegas, but refused to let referee Herb Dean call a halt to the action.

He was too busy crushing Jamahal Hill’s sweet dreams (of recapturing the crown).

Pereira stopped Hill by way of technical knockout at the 3:14 mark of the opening frame. Their UFC 300 pay-per-view (PPV) main event was a fitting end for an epic fight card that also featured one of the greatest finishes in the history of combat sports.

Hill was strategizing with Israel Adesanya ahead of UFC 300 in hopes of gathering important intel. I guess “Sweet Dreams” copied the gameplan from UFC 281 instead of UFC 287, where “The Last Stylebender” stopped “Poatan” to reclaim the middleweight crown.

Adesanya also picked Hill to upset Pereira at UFC 300.

“I want to keep continuing to defend this belt,” Pereira said through his translator in a post-fight interview with Joe Rogan. “I talked a lot about fighting in Brazil if I won this fight. I won this fight. I’m not hurt. Nothing happened. I know there needs to be a lot of promotion behind a fight, but I want to have a fight at heavyweight.”

Prior to his title defense at UFC 300, the 36 year-old Pereira was campaigning for a quick turnaround at UFC 301, which takes place on May 4 in his native Brazil. Unfortunately, UFC CEO Dana White told reporters that “Poatan” was unlikely to secure that booking. White also dismissed any notion of Pereira moving to heavyweight.
