Rogan: Masvidal Should Abandon McGregor, Pursue Title Fight

Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight veteran, Jorge Masvidal, is at the point in his storied mixed martial arts (MMA) career where he can write his own ticket, thanks to three straight wins (and three straight finishes) over some of the top names in the sport.

Along with a shiny new “BMF” belt.

But now that “Gamebred” has the clout to command a high-profile money fight, against the likes of Conor McGregor or even Nick Diaz, UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan, is afraid Masvidal, 35, will miss his shot at the 170-pound strap.

And subsequently miss his chance to prove he’s the best in the world.

“I see why he would say that but I think it would be a real shame if right now in his prime of primes, he didn’t fight for the title,” Rogan said (transcribed by Fernando Quiles). “I just feel like he’s so close. He’s huge right now. I wanna see first, no matter what, Colby and Usman. Once that’s done, I want Masvidal to fight for the title whoever’s got the belt. We’re experiencing Masvidal in this very strange zone where you see fighters enter into it whether it’s through this rededication or refocusing of his intent and his discipline.”

Masvidal (35-13) has won three or more consecutive fights seven times throughout his career.

Reigning welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, will defend his 170-pound title against bitter rival Colby Covington in the UFC 245 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, which takes place a week from Sat. night (Dec. 14, 2019) inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Masvidal is currently ranked No. 3 in the division behind Tyron Woodley (No. 1) and the aforementioned Covington (No. 2), so he could very easily take a break and wait for the dust to settle in “Sin City,” unless this guy finally gets his wish.
