Rob Font finally gets a fight, meets Ricky Simon at UFC on ESPN 7

UFC on ESPN 7 just got a little bit deeper

A bantamweight bout between contenders Rob Font (13-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) and Ricky Simon (15-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has been added to the card, which takes place Dec. 7 at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. The main card airs on ESPN after prelims on ESPN+.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie after a report from the Washington Post, but asked to remain anonymous as the fight has yet to be officially announced.

Font has been healthy and looking for a fight since early 2019. After both Cody Stamann and John Linker withdrew from their respective bookings with Font in June, the Team Lauzon product was pulled from UFC on ESPN+ 12.

A Massachusetts native, Font seemed like a shoe-in for UFC on ESPN 6 in Boston earlier this month. After a proposed matchup against Jimmie Rivera fizzled out, Font had to watch the event from outside of the cage.

His opponent, Simon, most recently competed at UFC on ESPN+ 13 in July. Simon was upset by returning Hall of Famer Urijah Faber. “The California Kid” finished the fight with strikes just 46 seconds into the first round.

With the addition, the UFC on ESPN 7 lineup now includes:

  • Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris
  • Yana Kunitskaya vs. Aspen Ladd
  • Cynthia Calvillo vs. Claudia Gadelha
  • Ricky Simon vs. Rob Font
  • Ben Rothwell vs. Stefan Struve
  • Carlos Condit vs. Mickey Gall
  • Thiago Alves vs. Tim Means
  • Cortney Casey vs. Virna Jandiroba
  • Joe Solecki vs. Matt Wiman
  • Cody Stamann vs. Song Yadong
  • Bryce Mitchell vs. Matt Sayles
  • Alonzo Menifield vs. Trevor Smith
