Corey Anderson calls for title shot with Jon Jones after derailing Johnny Walker train

NEW YORK – Corey Anderson beat Johnny Walker with a first-round TKO Saturday to close out the preliminary card at UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Take a look inside the fight with Anderson, who won for the fourth straight time – but first time by stoppage in that stretch.

Result: Corey Anderson def. Johnny Walker via TKO (punches) – Round 1, 2:07
Updated records: Anderson (13-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC), Walker (17-4 MMA, 3-1 UFC)
Key stat: Anderson outstruck Walker at a whopping 26-1.

Anderson on the fight’s key moment

“The way I just finished him, I have to be at the top of the title discussion. I didn’t get touched once and I didn’t let him get off any of that spinning stuff. One punch landed and it was over.”

Anderson on taking Walker’s hype

“I didn’t just stop the hype train – that was a train wreck, baby. I said it a million times: They put too much hype on him. There’s levels to this. There’s a reason I have 14 fights. I’ve lost to the best, but then I came back and beat the best. He hadn’t been there and I had to show everybody what’s up.”

Anderson on what he wants next

“Now I can say I deserve the title shot. I’m the only one in the top 10 that has beat two top-five guys. Dominick Reyes got Chris Weidman. Chris is my man, but he wasn’t on the up and up. Glover Teixeira fought Jon Jones. Ilir Latifi is a powerhouse, and I set records on Pat Cummins. I beat them all. Let’s do it at the end of January. I just have some hunting to do. Money has already been spent, so we’re going to do that and then take care of the big game.”
