Short-notice road game no problem for Dante Schiro at ONE Championship 105

It seems Dante Schiro doesn’t mind having the odds stacked against him.

The undefeated welterweight prospect has quickly racked up six wins since turning pro less than 18 months ago, including a pair of victories under the LFA banner. Now he’s making his way overseas – on short notice, and to fight in his opponent’s backyard, no less.

Schiro appears unfazed by seemingly having the deck stacked against him.

“I train all the time, so whether I had a full camp or not a full camp, I’m training all the time anyways, so I’m always in shape and ready to go,” Schiro said. “My hometown, his hometown, it doesn’t matter. It’s still a fight.”

Schiro (6-0) takes on Malaysia’s Agilan Thani (9-4) at Friday’s ONE Championship 105. The night’s main streams on B/R Live following prelims on Facebook and Twitter from Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur. It’s Schiro’s debut with the promotion, and he’s certainly not being handed any freebies, but he insists he’s not going to be outclassed.

“He’s a pretty good fighter,” Schiro said of Thani. “He’s got a lot of heart, which is good, and it seems like he’s going to be there the whole fight, so it’s going to be a tough fight.

“It will be a fun one, but I’ll get the job done.”

It’s certainly not the easiest of ways to try and make a name for one’s self, but with great risk comes great reward. Schiro knows he’s still an unfamiliar name to most, but he believes there’s a real opportunity to make a splash in his ONE debut.

“There’s no pressure,” Schiro said. “I came in here on nine days’ notice or whatever it is, so I’m here to fight.

“I’m there to finish and put on a show. If you like watching fights where people get finished, you’ll want to watch my fights.”
