It all goes down at UFC 246 on Jan. 18 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor returns to action to take on perennial contender and all-time UFC legend Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight headliner.

While this a big fight for McGregor and his quest for redemption in 2020, Cerrone has just as much to gain with a win. Having lost his last two Octagon appearances to lightweight contenders Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje, “Cowboy” needs something significant to wipe away that sour taste, regain momentum entering 2020, and make one final push towards another UFC title shot. A victory over McGregor at UFC 246 would certainly put “Cowboy”on the right track, no matter what weight the bout is contested at.

Heading into his massive main event clash with “Notorious”, the promotion has been nice enough to open up the Cerrone vault and release “Cowboy’s” 2018 submission win over “Platinum” Mike Perry, which can be seen in the above video player. While this was a grudge match of sorts, Cerrone didn’t seem bothered by the moment as he peppered Perry on the feet before locking up a tight armbar finish late into the first round.

Cerrone has promised to keep things standing against McGregor at UFC 246 in effort to give the fans what they want, but if he starts getting tagged by McGregor’s patented left hand the savvy veteran may decide to drag the action to the ground. If that’s the case, McGregor may end up experiencing the same fate as Perry, especially considering “Cowboy” will have a size and weight advantage over the Irishman.
