Barber Expected To Miss Nine Months Following ACL Surgery

Maycee Barber is likely to miss the rest of 2020 after undergoing ACL surgery yesterday (Mon., Feb. 10. 2020). According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, “The Future” is expected to be out at least nine months to recover.
Maycee Barber (@MayceeBarber) underwent successful surgery on her torn ACL moments ago in Milwaukee, per her father. Procedure was done by Dr. Michael Gordon, former team physician of the Milwaukee Bucks. Expected timeframe for full recovery is nine months.

Barber suffered the injury during her fight against Roxanne Modafferi at UFC 246 a few weeks ago in Las Vegas, Nevada. Barber could be seen discussing the injury with her corner before the cageside physician stepped in to do a quick examination.
Upon further review, the doctor did indeed determine Maycee had suffered a partial tear of her ACL, but was allowed to continue. Afterward, Barber caught flack for criticizing the doctor for pinpointing the injury during the fight.
Furthermore, her father added fuel to the fire by saying that Roxanne’s win had more to do with the injury, rather than her performance.
After making her Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) debut in July of 2018, Maycee quickly impressed Dana White and Co. by winning her first three fights via technical knockout (TKO).
Now, Barber will have a tough uphill climb after running into a couple of obstacles at UFC 246, though the 21-year old is more than up to the challenge.
“Every day from here forward will be a step in in right direction,” she wrote on Twitter following her surgery.
