UFC Rio Rancho weigh-in results: Anderson vs. Blachowicz set, but one fighter misses the mark

Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 25 fight card is set after the top end of the card made weight at Friday’s official weigh-in in Rio Rancho, N.M. Only one fighter missed the mark.

The fight card is headlined by a pivotal light heavyweight bout that could determine Jon Jones’s next challenger if Dominick Reyes isn’t granted an immediate rematch following their close UFC 247 headliner

Corey Anderson is on a four-fight winning streak with wins over some of the top fighters in the division, so he has been clamoring for a title shot already. If he notches a victory over Jan Blachowicz in New Mexico, it would be extremely difficult for UFC officials to deny him a shot at the belt.

Blachowicz isn’t far behind. Though he was tripped up early last year by Thiago Santos, Santos has already been granted a title shot and failed to claim the belt. Having notched wins over Luke Rockhold and Jacare Souza since that time, adding a win over Anderson to the list would certainly nudge Blachowicz close to title contention.

Neither man had issue with the scale in Rio Rancho. Anderson weighed 205 pounds, while Blachowicz was 206 pounds, which is the upper limit for a light heavyweight non-title fight.

Home state favorite Diego Sanchez easily hit the mark for his UFC Rio Rancho co-main event welterweight bout with Michel Pereira, who also made weight. Sanchez is also an alum of the inaugural season of the UFC’s pivotal reality show The Ultimate Fighter.

The lone fighter to miss weight was flyweight Ray Borg, which is nothing new. Borg has missed weight on several occasions, both at flyweight and bantamweight. The final fighter to the scale, he weighed 128 pounds for his fight with Rogerio Bontorin, who weighed 126 pounds on the nose.

UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs Marc Ratner announced that Borg would be given one hour after the fighters faced off at the weigh-in to try and hit the mark of 126 pounds, which is the allowable limit for a flyweight non-title fight.

The UFC on ESPN+ 25 official weigh-in was the only weigh-in for this event. Like many Fight Night events, the UFC did not schedule a ceremonial weigh-in, so the fighters faced off immediately following the conclusion of the official weigh-in. Because he couldn’t continue cutting weight during the face-off time, Borg’s hour did not start until the face-offs concluded.
