Report: Drug Test Behind Ortiz-Del Rio ‘No Contest’

Longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) veteran, Tito Ortiz, was recently suspended by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) for testing positive during an in-competition drug test in conjunction with his Alberto Del Rio fight, which took place under the Combate Americas banner back in December.

That’s according to a report from ESPN.

In addition, “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” had his win over Del Rio overturned to a “No Contest” while the commission continues its investigation. The banned substance, which has yet to be identified, is not categorized as a performance-enhancing drug (PED), according to the report.

“This is a BS claim and will get overturned,” Ortiz wrote on Instagram. “I promise you all. Sad way to get attention at my expense.”

Prior to this most recent incident, the 45 year-old Ortiz had never failed a drug test in his storied combat sports career. He reportedly informed TDLR of the substance he was taking long before he stepped into “La Jaula” against Del Rio in Hidalgo, but that disclosure wasn’t enough to keep his victory intact.
