Midnight Mania! Hardy Wants Pettis

Former Welterweight title challenger and current UFC commentator Dan Hardy is technically riding a two-fight win streak right now. Unfortunately, both of those victories came way back in 2012. Since then, Hardy has been forced into a state of retirement from a rare “Wolf Heart” condition that kicked him out of UFC on FOX 7.

Though Hardy remains afflicted by the condition, a couple years ago he announced an interest in returning anyway, likely in the Lightweight division. Hardy has hinted at a return since, but now “The Outlaw” is naming potential opponents.

“First and foremost, I’m an analyst now. I’m a commentator, so I don’t want to fight someone that’s on a trajectory to a title shot. Because, I’m not interested in stepping in there and upsetting any kind of rankings, involving myself in those conversations. The people I’ve had conversations about fighting, obviously “Cowboy” is near the top of the list, cause he’d be a great pick. Anthony Pettis, that’s a fight I’ve discussed with Felder, he’s discussed with Anthony. That’s a fight we’d both like to happen.”

It’s good to hear that Hardy isn’t envisioning any title run, but the Englishman is still aiming fairly high for an eight-year comeback bout! Both Donald Cerrone and Pettis have struggled recently, but both also have scored big wins in the not so distant past as well. Last year, Cerrone climbed into the Lightweight top five and Pettis knocked out Stephen Thompson — those are not easy fights.

They would, however, draw a fair amount of attention. If Hardy does make his return in 2020, who should he face?

All the UFC 249 chaos has created some really bizarre reactions online. Frankly, Twitter is especially miserable right now, swamped with the proudly stupid and annoyingly self-righteous.

Here’s an example: Iridium Sports CEO Jason House directs his ire at MMA Media for failing to be “positive” … which is not exactly the goal of journalism.

Yet, I can also easily understand why some find certain writers insufferable.
