Silva Vows To Take Part In Two More UFC Fights

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, recently underwent knee surgery after badly injuring it in the first round of his bout against Jared Cannonier in May of 2019 at UFC 237, which resulted in a knockout win for “Killa Gorilla.”

Now that he’s on the road to recovery, the former pound-for-pound king is determined to mount a mixed martial arts (MMA) comeback, taking to social media immediately after his procedure to reveal that he intends to fight at least the remaining two fights on his UFC contract.

“I finished my knee surgery. I will recover now,” Silva said in Portuguese as translated by MMA Fighting. “I’m fine, and wanted to thank everyone’s support, and (thank) my fans that cheer for me. I’ll be 100 percent soon, and do my two fights in the UFC. I wanted to thank every UFC fan. I finished my surgery and everything is fine, I’m going home. Thanks.”

After starting his UFC career with 16 straight victories including 10 title defenses, “The Spider” saw a steep decline in his performances, losing six of his last eight, with one of his wins being overturned to a No Contest (NC) after failing a drug test shortly after defeating Nick Diaz at UFC 183.

Still, the 45-year old legend isn’t ready to walk off into the sunset just yet, as he fully intends to, at the very least, finish out the massive contract he signed with UFC way back in 2013 prior to losing his title to Chris Weidman. Since then, he has fulfilled eight of the 10 fights he signed on for.

While no timetable is set for Silva’s return, you can expect many to be chomping at the bit to be the one to welcome back the Brazilian bomber in hopes of having a win over the ex-champ on their resume.
