McGregor Responds To Silva Callout: ‘I Accept’

I want to apologize to all the mixed martial arts (MMA) fans who roll their eyes every time we post something stupid and pointless (your eyes must be exhausted by now) but when fighters as popular as Anderson Silva and Conor McGregor start interacting on social media, we have an obligation to our traffic meters to get it posted.

Silva, who competed as high as light heavyweight, recently called for a showdown against McGregor, who competed as low as featherweight, because of the “greatest of all time” argument started by “Notorious” on his Twitter account. Sadly, this isn’t “The Spider’s” first attempt at finagling a McGregor fight (sample here).

“I accept,” McGregor wrote.

As we learned from the Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou feud, it doesn’t really matter if the fighters want to compete or if the fans want to watch it. Unless Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is willing to pay for it, we have nothing but online trash talk. We typically get that anyway, for better or worse, so it’s probably not worth getting too worked up about it.

Silva (34-10, 1 NC) turned 45 back in April and has just one win over the last eight years. As for the 31 year-old McGregor (22-4), he was last seen brutalizing Donald Cerrone back in January in a welterweight contest atop the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) fight card. As of this writing, both combatants remain unbooked.
