UFC on ESPN 12 post-event facts: Dustin Poirier, Dan Hooker set striking record

UFC on ESPN 12 concluded the promotion’s five-week stretch of events at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and the card provided some historic moments.

Dustin Poirier (26-6 MMA, 18-5 UFC) added to his legend in the main event when he produced another classic for his resume in the form of a unanimous decision victory over Dan Hooker (20-9 MMA, 10-5 UFC), who was game for all five rounds despite falling short on the scorecards.

General

UFC on ESPN 12 featured four third-round submission finishes, tied with UFC Fight Night 89 for the single-event UFC record.

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $117,500.

Debuting fighters went 1-3 at the event.

Poirier, Hooker, Julian Erosa and Kay Hansen earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN 12 fight-night bonuses.

UFC on ESPN 12 drew an announced attendance of zero for a live gate of $0.

Betting favorites went 7-3 on the card.

Betting favorites improved to 10-6 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 10-bout card was 1:50:16.

Main card

Poirier improved to 10-2 (with one no contest) since he moved up to the UFC lightweight division in April 2015.

Poirier became the 10th fighter in UFC history to earn 18 or more wins with the promotion.

Poirier is one of eight fighters in UFC history to earn 10 fight-night bonuses.

Poirier became the first lightweight in UFC history to land 150 or more significant strikes in three separate fights.

Poirier and Hooker combined for 390 total strikes landed, the single-fight record for a UFC lightweight bout. Poirier vs. Max Holloway at UFC 236 held the previous record with 388.

Hooker fell to 7-2 since he moved up to the UFC lightweight division in June 2017.

Hooker has suffered four of his five UFC losses by decision.

Mike Perry (14-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) has earned his past three victories by decision after beginning his career with 11 stoppages.

Mickey Gall (6-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) has alternated wins and losses over his past six fights.

Gall has suffered two of his three career losses by decision.

Maurice Greene (9-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has earned seven of his nine career victories by stoppage. That includes three of his four UFC wins.

Greene became the second fighter in UFC history to earn a submission victory by arm-triangle choke from bottom position. Aljamain Sterling also accomplished the feat.

Gian Villante (17-12 MMA, 7-9 UFC) was unsuccessful in his UFC heavyweight debut.

Villante remained winless in heavyweight competition since February 2011. He fell to 6-2 when fighting in the weight class.

Villante fell to 2-5 in his past seven UFC appearances dating back to May 2017.

Villante suffered the first submission loss of his career.

Kyle Daukaus (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) had his nine-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Takashi Sato (16-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) has earned 13 of his 16 career victories by stoppage. Both of his UFC wins are by knockout.

Jason Witt (17-6 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered all six of his career losses by stoppage.

Erosa (23-8 MMA, 2-4 UFC) was successful in his return to the UFC for a third stint. He earned his first victory with the promotion since December 2015.

Erosa snapped his three-fight losing skid for his first victory since June 2018.

Sean Woodson (7-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) had his seven-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Khama Worthy (14-6 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by stoppage.

Luis Pena (8-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) suffered the first submission loss of his career.

Philipe Lins (15-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has suffered four of his five career losses by stoppage.

Lins has suffered all four of his career losses by knockout.

Hansen (7-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned six of her seven career victories by stoppage.

Jinh Yu Frey (9-5 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first submission loss of her career.

Youssef Zalal (9-2 MMA, 2-0 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Jordan Griffin (18-8 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has suffered all three of his UFC losses by decision.
