Munhoz Tests Positive For COVID-19, Out Of Frankie Edgar Fight

And the hits just keep on coming. Just a few days after Gilbert Burns was forced out of the UFC 251 main event title fight against Kamaru Usman after testing positive for COVID-19, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has lost another big fight.

According to multiple confirmed reports, Pedro Munhoz has also tested positive for the coronavirus and has been forced out of his Bantamweight fight against Frankie Edgar, which was set to go down on July 15, 2020 on “Fight Island.”

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Munhoz is said to be feeling okay despite his diagnosis. Furthermore, Helwani also reports that UFC is currently in the process of trying to lock down a late replacement to face “The Answer” on just nine days notice.

Edgar immediately took to social media to offer some encouragement to Munhoz.

As for “The Answer,” this is now the second time his debut at a 135 pounds has been postponed. That said, if Dana White and Co. were able to lock down Jorge Masvidal — a man who up until yesterday had major beef with the promotion — to face the Welterweight champion on just six days notice, the promotion should have some luck trying to get a late fill-in for Edgar.

Edgar vs Munhoz was originally set to go down at UFC 251 this Saturday night but was eventually moved to co-headline the Fight Night event taking place just four days later.
