Bellator 242 Loses Fight Due To COVID-19

MMA Fighting

Bellator MMA is set to make its long-awaited return to mixed martial arts (MMA) after being out of commission for five months due to COVID-19, as Bellator 242 is set to take place this Friday (July 24, 2020) from inside Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

But the promotion has already been hit with a setback, as Steve Mowry has been forced out of his scheduled fight against Rudy Schaffroth, which was set to take place on the event’s prelims. Mowry announced news of his withdrawal on Instagram.

Mowry is undefeated at 7-0, including winning all three of his fights for Bellator. It is unknown if whether or not Schaffroth will remain on the card or if the promotion is even currently looking for a replacement.

The event — which will be streamed on YouTube and DAZN — will be headlined by a highly-intriguing Bantamweight bout between former UFC contender, Sergio Pettis, taking on Ricky Bandejas. Another ex-UFC combatant will be co-headlining the card, as Jordan Mein will face Jason Jackson in Welterweight action.
