LAS VEGAS – Collin Huckbody had no doubt he’d impress UFC president Dana White on Tuesday night.
Huckbody (8-2) made quick work of Kyren Bowen at Dana White’s Contender Series 30, earning a UFC contract with a first-round arm-triangle choke. Once Huckbody got the fight to the ground, he effortlessly transitioned into full mount to secure the submission in less than two minutes.
For Huckbody, it was a dream scenario of a statement win – which he envisioned all along.
“I really did feel like this was always going to happen,” Huckbody told reporters, including MMA Junkie, on Tuesday after his win at the UFC Apex. “I saw it ahead of time, and it was a matter of putting in the hard work, showing up and making it happen.”
He continued, “It was different with no crowd, but I really feel like I was made for that, fighting with nobody watching and putting in the work when nobody’s watching, so it was good.”
In what has become his patented move, Huckbody scored his third straight arm-triangle choke and his fifth overall. He credits his coach and UFC veteran Brock Larson for his dangerous submission game.
“Shout out to my head coach, Brock Larson, keeping my jiu-jitsu tight and really making sure I lock that down when I need to so. If somebody gives it to me, I’m gonna take it.”
