Borg Announces (Then Deletes) Retirement

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight title contender Ray Borg, who was released from the promotion after numerous scale fails and missed bouts, announced his retirement on Thursday via Instagram.

Then deleted it.

“Been in this game for a solid 14 years, never did I think retirement would come at the age of 27,” Borg wrote. “But some decisions are harder than others and I have to make sure I am making the right one for my family. I appreciate all the love the MMA community has shown my family over the years but it may be time to move on to the next chapter of my life. Much love everyone!”

Borg (13-5) was hoping to rebound from his split-decision loss to Ricky Simon with a big performance at UFC Vegas 5; however, “The Tazmexican Devil” abruptly withdrew from the contest prior to the official weigh ins.

Whether or not this retirement sticks remains to be seen but Borg is still in his fighting prime and has a family to support, so it would not come as a shock to see him resurface in a competing promotion like Bellator MMA or ONE Championship.
