Tony Ferguson wants UFC, Dana White to take care of Dustin Poirier for proposed fight: ‘Pay the man’

Tony Ferguson supports Dustin Poirier in his stance to get compensated for their proposed fight.

Ferguson (25-4 MMA, 15-2 UFC) and Poirier (26-6 MMA, 18-5 UFC) were linked to a bout at UFC 254 in Abu Dhabi, but after Poirier didn’t come to financial terms with the UFC, the fight fell through.

Dana White deemed the fight “dead” and said the plan is to find Ferguson another opponent. But it appears Ferguson still wants the Poirier fight, urging the UFC to pay “The Diamond” what he’s asking for so they can make the fight happen.

“‘Here’s Lookin’ At You Kid’ Pay the man @danawhite @ufc Love ya’ll but let’s give the Hardcore & Casual fans what they deserve, a good fight Sir Crossed swords 🕶 -CSO- Flag of United States Trophy Flag of Mexico @DustinPoirier #ufc254″

Poirier was quick to respond, showing his appreciation toward Ferguson’s message as the two former UFC interim lightweight champions attempt to salvage the fight.

“Tony’s the type of guy who would manage his opponent and get him a new contract for the fight to happen.”

Ferguson is coming off a fifth-round stoppage loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249, which put a halt to his 12-fight winning streak and No. 1 contender spot.

After falling short in his attempt to unify the belts with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in September 2019, Poirier rebounded with a unanimous decision win over Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 12 in June.
