Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm regained full momentum last night (Sat., Oct. 3, 2020) at UFC Fight Island 4 live on ESPN/ESPN+ from inside Flash Forum on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E., after she dismantled red-hot contender Irene Aldana for a lopsided unanimous decision win.

Holm looked fast in the early going, landing forward combinations and counter strikes in the clinch. Aldana wasn’t able to land much of anything as Holm changed levels toward the end of the first to score a takedown. In Round 2, Aldana checked Holm with a big right hand counter. Holm absorbed the damage and regained control with her own right hand that backed Aldana up. The former champion would eventually land another takedown and gained some valuable top time.

The third round saw Aldana start to find a home for her left hook, which prompted Holm to level change again and get top control. After working into full mount Holm launched lightning quick punches that forced Aldana to cover up, but the Mexican fighter wouldn’t give in and eventually returned to her feet.

In Round 4, Aldana continued to struggle to find her range and really make Holm pay. Holm’s footwork, side kicks, and combinations were too much for the younger contender to push through. “Preacher’s Daughter” would land another takedown and then more punches when the action return to the feet.

The fifth and final frame was much of the same, as Holm kept Aldana guessing with movement around the pocket, side kicks, and sharp counters. The former champ was simply on her game and never let off the gas, landing a beautiful head kick in the final moments of action.
