Anyone familiar with the Bro Code understands you can’t publicly comment on anything below the equator because that’s an admission you were looking at places that are considered off limits … but I think we can make an exception in the case of Brian Ortega.

That’s because “T City” was wearing the wrong cup for his featherweight main event against Chan Sung Jung earlier this month on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, though I regret to inform you that his overdue explanation creates more questions than answers.

“Okay the real story of the cup I was wearing,” Ortega wrote on Instagram. “I was in such a hurry that when I left to Abu Dhabi I accidentally grabbed my little bro’s cup and left mine at home. Chris Ortega thanks for saving my balls, literally.”

The 29 year-old Ortega (15-1, 1 NC) returned from nearly a two-year layoff to dominate “The Korean Zombie” at UFC Fight Island 6 and cement himself as the No. 2 contender at 145 pounds behind former champion Max Holloway.

While nothing is official at this time, the promotion is expected to put “T-City” into a featherweight title fight against reigning division kingpin Alexander Volkanovski at some point in early 2021, which should give Ortega plenty of time to find his own cup.
