Intergender freakshow fight sees bantamweight woman TKO 529-pound man in Russia

Think about all of the great strides that have been made to make MMA such a success over the last two decades. The establishment of rules, weight classes, safety measures, and best practices have all helped take a sport viewed by many as lawless and barbaric in the early days to a fully regulated, legitimate sport.

But the success of MMA as a mainstream sport also leaves the door open for less-legitimate endeavors, such as this, from Russia.

The fight promotion, “Our Business,” staged an event that included an intergender fight between a 139-pound woman and a 529-pound man. Yes, really.

The female fighter, 4-1 professional Darina Madzyuk, was matched against blogger Grigory Chistyakov in a fight that can only be described as a freakshow fight.

There really aren’t many words to describe this, but here it is:

The matchup was designed to attract attention, and while Chistyakov attempted to use his significant size advantage to smother Madzyuk, the professional fighter prevailed after hurting Chistyakov with punches, then overwhelming him with ground strikes to claim a first-round TKO due to a tap to strikes.

We don’t really know what else to say, really, other than we’re happy that nobody appeared to get seriously hurt in a matchup that, at best, was ludicrously irresponsible.

The Blue Corner is MMA Junkie’s blog space. We don’t take it overly serious, and neither should you. If you come complaining to us that something you read here is not hard-hitting news, expect to have the previous sentence repeated in ALL CAPS.
