Figueiredo Issues Threat To ‘Fatso’ Cejudo

Deiveson Figueiredo was one of the most productive and dominant UFC fighters of 2020, but the reigning UFC flyweight champion is still getting no love from Henry Cejudo.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic and competing within a division that was left for dead just a few years ago, Figueiredo was still able to burst through his ceiling and become a star over the past 12 months. The Brazilian champion not only produced a 3-0-1 record inside of the Octagon but he won the vacant flyweight title, defended it once, and nearly defended it again in a Fight of the Year performance opposite Brandon Moreno on just 21 days notice.

While most combat enthusiasts agree that Figueiredo was an absolute beast in 2020 Cejudo continues to sing a different tune. The former UFC double champion took aim at Figueiredo after many MMA outlets named him “Fighter of the Year” for 2020, suggesting that he should come out of retirement to win back the flyweight belt that he never actually lost.

Figueiredo, who is as confident as they come, wasted little time throwing shade back at Cejudo. To much surprise, Figueiredo was able to rattle off the insult in English, which can be seen below:

“Hey Cejudo, look at me fatso I’m going to knock you out!!!! My middle name is “Danger.”

While Cejudo is currently retired from MMA after leaving the sport back in May following a win over Dominick Cruz a matchup against Figueiredo is just what the doctor ordered. Figueiredo will likely rematch Moreno early this year since their last fight ended in a draw, but if the champion gets past that fight there aren’t too many other contenders ready to fight for the belt.

Cejudo, who turns 34 next month, has put together a 8-2 record at flyweight since making his UFC debut back in 2014. He remains the only flyweight to ever defeat Demetrious Johnson inside of the Octagon when he captured a split decision over “Mighty Mouse” in 2018. Cejudo then turned that into a money fight with TJ Dillashaw at UFC on ESPN+ 1 and won that fight via 32-second TKO. That is the last time Cejudo competed at 125 pounds.
