Michael Chiesa to auction off UFC on ESPN 20 fight kit to Dustin Poirier’s charity

Michael Chiesa’s main event with Neil Magny at UFC on ESPN 20 will benefit a good cause.

Chiesa (17-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC), who meets Magny (24-7 MMA, 17-6 UFC) in Wednesday’s welterweight headliner, announced he’ll auction off his fight-worn kit for the event with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Dustin Poirier’s charity, The Good Fight Foundation.

There will be benefits for those who contribute, Chiesa said in his announcement (via Instagram):

It’s never a bad idea to do a little good, right? That’s why I’m teaming up with @thegoodfightfoundation and @lets_engage ahead of my UFC Fight Night 185 Main Event Fight on Jan 20th to launch the #MichaelChiesaSweepstakes in support of The Good Fight Foundation’s mission to help athlete’s use their platform for something bigger. There are a ton of UNREAL prizes available including a private FaceTime Call with me, my fight worn Reebok Walkout Jacket and much more. 100% OF THE PROCEEDS from the event will benefit @TheGoodFightFoundation so get your entries at the LINK IN MY BIO, at letsengage.com/michael, or @lets_engage before it’s too late!

In the past, charity goals around Poirier’s fights have included building water wells to repair a ruined water supply at an orphanage and school in Uganda, building a playground for special needs children, and supplying backpacks for more than 500 schoolchildren.

Poirier typically auctions off his fight-worn gear to raise money for his charity, as well. For UFC 257, where Poirier fights Conor McGregor in the main event, the foundation is teaming up with The Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana to “help bridge the gap in academic success by providing transportation and tutoring” in what is called “Project Learn.”

In addition, McGregor has publicly pledged to contribute $500,000 to his charity. Poirier told MMA Junkie in November he intends to use that money to help build an MMA gym for struggling youth with membership fees covered in exchange for good conduct and dedication to school work.

Poirier’s efforts have not gone unnoticed in the MMA community. Prior to his most recent win over Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 12 in June, Poirier was honored with the inaugural “Forrest Griffin Community Award” to acknowledge his work.
