UFC on ESPN 22 weigh-in results: Two fighters miss, one bout scrapped

LAS VEGAS – MMA Junkie is on scene and reporting live from Friday’s official UFC on ESPN 22 fighter weigh-ins, which kick off at noon ET (9 a.m. PT).

The weigh-ins take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The same venue hosts Saturday’s card, which has a main card on ESPN following prelims on ESPN2.

Among those weighing in are former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker (22-5 MMA, 13-3 UFC) and Kelvin Gastelum (17-6 MMA, 11-6 UFC), who meet in the main event. Both fighters made weight without issue.

The same could not be said for Zarah Fairn (6-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC), who was attempting to make the bantamweight limit for the first time in her UFC career in a bout against promotional newcomer Josiane Nunes (7-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

While the bout was moved to a catchweight of 139 pounds, Fairn weighed 147 pounds, and the bout was scrapped by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Additionally, Tracy Cortez (8-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) came in one-half pound over the non-title women’s flyweight limit of her contest with Justine Kish (7-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and was fined 20 percent of her purse.
