Following UFC departure, Alistair Overeem signs multifight Glory Kickboxing contract

Alistair Overeem is returning to his kickboxing roots.

Overeem, who was released from the UFC roster in March, has signed a multifight deal with Glory Kickboxing, his management team told ESPN on Tuesday. No date or opponent has been set for Overeem’s Glory debut, but it’s expected to take place later this year.

The news was announced after Overeem posted a cryptic Instagram video in which he took off a pair of UFC gloves and laid them down on the ground. That video was later followed by another one of Overeem picking up a pair of Glory gloves, which was produced by the promotion.

Overeem, 41, departed the UFC having won two of his past three fights. The former DREAM and Strikeforce heavyweight champion was looking to make one final run at UFC gold but saw his pursuit take a halt when he suffered a second-round stoppage loss to Alexander Volkov this past February.

In 14 professional kickboxing bouts, Overeem amassed a 10-4 record, en route to winning the 2010 K-1 world grand prix final. He holds notable finishes over the likes of Badr Hari, Gokhan Saki and Peter Aerts, and will be returning to the kickboxing ring for the first time in over a decade.
