Ovince Saint Preux has no heavyweight plans beyond Tanner Boser at UFC Fight Night 190

LAS VEGAS – Ovince Saint Preux doesn’t expect his second move up to heavyweight to last long.

Saint Preux (25-15 MMA, 13-10 UFC), traditionally a light heavyweight, is once again slated to compete up a division on Saturday when he meets Tanner Boser (19-8-1 MMA, 3-3 UFC) in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 190. The card takes place at the UFC Apex and streams on ESPN+.

After coming up short by split decision to Ben Rothwell in his first heavyweight try with the UFC in May 2020, Saint Preux will give it another shot when he meets Boser in a short-notice pairing.

Ahead of the bout, Saint Preux attended UFC Fight Night 190 media day on Wednesday and discussed the matchup with Boser, why he’ll be taking only one-offs at heavyweight, where he stands in his career and more.

“People always ask me, ‘Would you go back to the heavyweight division?’ I’m like, ‘If the right opportunity presents itself, I’ll entertain it,’” Saint Preux told MMA Junkie. “The fact of the matter is my first heavyweight fight I fought ‘Big’ Ben. I was thinking to myself during weigh-ins like, ‘He don’t look that big.’ Then we got in the octagon and I was like, ‘Oh shoot, he’s actually pretty big.’ You don’t realize those guys are really, really hard to move. … Given that Tanner’s not a bigger heavyweight, I was like, ‘Yes, I’m going to entertain this possibility.’”

“By trade, I am a light heavyweight. But if the opportunity represents itself I will entertain the heavyweight division.
