Makhachev Boots Ferguson From Top 5

Former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate returns at No. 8 in the 135-pound division after stopping the since-retired Marion Reneau.

Surging lightweight contender Islam Makhachev took over the No. 5 spot in the promotion’s official rankings — sending Tony Ferguson to No. 6 in the process — by submitting 155-pound bruiser Thiago Moises in the UFC Vegas 32 main event last weekend in “Sin City.”

The Brazilian slips to No. 15.

Former lightweight champion Conor McGregor has not seen action since losing to Dustin Poirier back on July 10 but continued his rankings free fall anyway, dropping all the way down to No. 9, presumably as punishment for being such a turd over the last few weeks.

Here’s how UFC compiles its “official” rankings:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
