“The King” isn’t interested in “Tank.”

Ryan Garcia turned the boxing world upside down last night (Sat., April 20, 2024) when he shocked the previous undefeated Devin Haney by defeating him via a majority decision from inside Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York (watch highlights!).

After the fight, during the post-fight press conference, Garcia was asked if he was interested in rematching Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the only person to defeat him.

“I don’t think Tank is going to beat Frank Martin, but if he did, he wouldn’t fight me because I’m moving up. I’m not doing 140 lbs, I’m doing 147 lbs. I can’t make 140,” Garcia said. “I technically next fought at 140. I fought every time at 143. My body literally cannot go lower than 143; it’s impossible. I tried every technique, I can’t do it.”

Garcia’s promoter, Oscar Del La Hoya, added, “The only way he’s going to fight Tank Davis is at a catchweight. Okay? At 145 lbs. Just the way they did it to him. Now he’s the man. Now, he’s the face of boxing. Come on now.”

Garcia concluded with, “I am the face of boxing. Confidently, I know I am.”

Davis vs. Garcia was a blockbuster super fight in 2023, raking in 1.2 million pay-per-view buys. However, the fight came with some controversy regarding the contracted weight and 10 lb dehydration clause.

Garcia revealed he felt weak during the fight but never used the dehydration clause as an excuse because ‘he signed the contract.’ Nevertheless, a vicious body shot stopped Garcia in the second round (watch it).

While a rematch between the two would be epic, Garcia has several options for his next opponent.
