Adam Borics impressed by Enrique Barzola’s durability, proud of debut win at 2024 PFL 3

CHICAGO – Adam Borics is happy with what he showed in his PFL debut, especially given the circumstances he had to deal with prior.

The former Bellator title challenger debuted for the PFL this past Friday in the preliminary card of 2024 PFL 3. Adam Borics (19-2) defeated veteran Enrique Barzola (20-8-2) by unanimous decision to score three points in the 2024 PFL featherweight season.

Borics hadn’t fought since losing to Patricio Freire in 2022 in a Bellator title fight. The 30-year-old revealed he fought “Pitbull” with a torn ACL, which he had repaired after the fight, and that’s why he was out of action for a while.

“First of all, that was my comeback fight,” Borics told reporters in his post-fight interview. “I had ACL surgery right after the ‘Pitbull’ fight. Most of the people, they don’t know, but I fought without an ACL against ‘Pitbull.’

“I couldn’t wait to get back in the cage and perform. It wasn’t my best performance, but. I fought hard and he’s a really tough guy. You saw it. He survived the second round. … I’m happy, I’m back, and I’m excited about my new chapter in my career.”

Borics’ win over Barzola was one of the more exciting fights of the night. It was a back-and-forth contest with many good moments for both fighters. Borics, who dropped Barzola a couple of times, was surprised by the Peruvian’s durability.

“He hits hard, but man, he’s got a chin,” Borics said. “I landed a couple of clean shots, like clean, and he was still up, I mean he was rocked. He was tough. I’m thankful for this because I need it. I wanted to fight hard, and I had to.”
