Former UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor was expected to co-headline a special charity wheelchair boxing event on Sept. 11 inside Clayton Hotel in Galway, Ireland, taking on local comedian and “Notorious” impressionist Al Foran.

Don’t roll out the red carpet ramp just yet.

“Unfortunately the fight is off folks, but it’s still going to be a fantastic night in aid of a great cause with Stevo and Paddy going head to head in the main event,” Foran wrote on Twitter. “I’ll still be there on the night in some capacity too!”

McGregor will remain on ice until the end of the year on the advice of both his physician and his physical therapist. “Mystic Mac” suffered a devastating leg break against Dustin Poirier in the UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) main event last month in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Guys, the September date is too early for me,” McGregor explained. “I am still in recovery. My docs/physical therapy team out here advise me to stay. I reckon late October at earliest. But maybe November/December too. It is hard to say at this time a concrete date. But I’m in! Wait for me please.”

McGregor, no stranger to charity headlines, has dropped three of his last four and may not be medically cleared to make his cagefighting return until late 2022. In his absence, Poirier will move on to challenge Charles Oliveira for the 155-pound strap later this year.
