Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight champion Conor McGregor recently called ex-heavyweight titleholder Daniel Cormier a “fat mess” who was showing up “drunk” and commentating fights while intoxicated.

Must be all those wild nights with referee Keith Peterson.

Or perhaps it was the comments “DC” made about McGregor’s “disturbing behavior” before, during, and after the UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) event last month in Las Vegas, which Cormier insists was a veiled “cry for help.”

Either way, Cormier was able to separate his personal and professional opinions when it came time to choose his list of “must-see” UFC fighters, ranking McGregor at No. 1 — three spots above longtime friend and teammate Khabib Nurmagomedov.

  1. Conor McGregor
  2. Brock Lesnar
  3. Georges St-Pierre
  4. Khabib Nurmagomedov
  5. Ronda Rousey

“Fair, although I would say I am 1 through 5 before other comes in, but I understand,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Respect Daniel, carry on, god bless. Nice one mate, get a bottle of 12 onto the set now. You were seen!”

This isn’t the first time Cormier has been complimentary toward the Irishman’s UFC career, previously comparing McGregor to WWE superstar “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. “DC” also ranked “Notorious” above other top lightweights, like Tony Ferguson.

Cormier, 42, retired from combat sports after losing his trilogy to Stipe Miocic back in summer 2020. As for the 33 year-old McGregor, he’s coming off back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier, the latter of which ended in a broken leg.
