It was far from ideal, but Marvin Vettori’s experience in the lead up and fallout to the UFC Fight Night 196 is something he won’t soon forget.

Vettori (18-5-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) got put through the proverbial ringer before he even stepped in the octagon with Paulo Costa (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) for Saturday’s headliner at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The fight week drama around changing weight classes has been well documented at this point, but it didn’t deter Vettori from the task at hand, as he secured the unanimous decision win.

“The Italian Dream” entered the octagon at a noted size disadvantage and went to war with Costa for five full rounds, setting records for significant strikes landed and showing off a ridiculous chin, as well. He earned major points for the way in which he handled himself in and out of the octagon, and that should put Vettori in position for something big.

What should that be, exactly? Watch the vide above for thoughts and analysis on Vettori’s future after UFC Fight Night 196.
