Paulo Costa significantly damaged his value prior to his UFC Fight Night 196 main event loss to Marvin Vettori.

Costa’s complete lack of professionalism was on display day after day in the lead-up to the fight with Vettori (18-5-1 MMA, 8-3-1 UFC) at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Costa (13-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) showed up to fight week significantly over the contracted middleweight limit, and after much behind-the-scenes drama, forced the bout to be shifted to light heavyweight.

It was a ridiculous string of events that took place prior to Costa getting in the octagon, where he lost a unanimous decision to Vettori in an instant classic. It was a high-quality bout, but one that was ultimately stained by Costa’s antics. As a result, UFC president Dana White said 205 pounds is Costa’s home going forward.
