UFC’s Katlyn Chookagian wants a second shot at Valentina Shevchenko or a fresh opponent next

Katlyn Chookagian has very few requirements as she looks for her next UFC opponent.

The long-time UFC flyweight contender and former title challenger has a small list of women she’d like to fight, mainly just because they’re some of the few she has yet to step in the octagon with.

Chookagian (18-4 MMA, 11-4 UFC) extended her winning streak to 4-0 on Saturday night. She defeated Amanda Ribas in a split decision on the main card of UFC on ESPN 36 in Las Vegas. After the fight, Chookagian got on the microphone in her in-cage, post-fight interview and made her plans known once again.

“It’s like a broken record, I want the title shot,” Chookagian said. “Obviously, I want my second shot at Valentina (Shevchenko) for the title, but anyone else, as long as I can stay active, whoever is ready the soonest, I’ll do.”

Chookagian also had a list of opponents who she wanted to fight – all fighters she’s never faced before.

“Any girl that I haven’t fought,” Chookagian said. “If Miesha Tate wins, Alexa Grasso, that French chick can get it. Anyone.”

Manon Fiorot is the French fighter Chookagian referred to, who is undefeated through four fights in the UFC since her debut in January 2021.

Chookagian feels the division is improving and getting new contenders, something that plagued the weight class for many years, as champion Valentina Shevchenko maintains dominance at the top.

“I think over the past year the flyweight division has been evolving so much,” Chookagian told reporters backstage. “We’re seeing fresh faces and just different girls who are becoming better and it’s becoming a deeper, more interesting division.”
