USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, May 17: Did Storley’s interim title win affect the welterweight division?

It wasn’t the busiest week for the USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings update following events in Bellator and UFC, but there were some changes to the honorable mentions in the welterweight, light heavyweight, and women’s flyweight divisions.

A new interim welterweight champion was crowned at Bellator 281 in London as hard-nosed wrestler Logan Storley defeated the dangerous striker Michael “Venom” Page in the main event. It wasn’t the most exciting win in the world for Storley, but it was an important split decision victory. He now positions himself in place to face Yaroslav Amosov whenever he is able to return to action after defending his home country of Ukraine. Storley enters the honorable mentions at welterweight this week.

At UFC on ESPN 36, Viviane Araujo took care of business against Andrea Lee in a preliminary card bout to bounce back from her loss to Katlyn Chookagian, who competed later on the main card. Light heavyweight contender Ryan Spann snatched up a quick submission win over Ion Cutelaba, pocketing an extra $50,000 for a Performance of the Night bonus. Both Araujo and Spann claim honorable mention spots in their respective divisions as well.

Check out the full updated rankings in the pull-down lists above ahead of UFC Fight Night 206.
