Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s title reign was historic on more than one front.

Not only did Jedrzejczyk (16-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) become the first-ever Polish champion in the company’s history, along with the first female European UFC title holder, when she took the title from Carla Esparza back 2015, but she went on to set more records.

Jedrzejczyk’s championship reign extended from early 2015 to late 2017, as she defended her belt in dominant fashion five consecutive times. During that span, Jedrzejczyk defeated Jessica Andrade, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Claudia Gadelha, Valerie Letourneau and Jessica Penne.

It was the most title defenses in women’s UFC history at the time, but would years later get surpassed by Valentina Shevchenko, who has six defenses at flyweight.

Jedrzejczyk, now 34, returns to the octagon on June 11 at UFC 275 in Kallang, Singapore. She’ll take on Zhang Weili, a rematch that stems from March 2020. That’s the last time Jedrzejczyk was seen in competition. The first bout against Weili was a very close, split decision loss for Jedrzejczyk. It won Fight of the Night awards that night and was also MMA Junkie’s 2020 Fight of the Year.
