USA TODAY Sports/MMA Junkie rankings, Aug. 9: Jamahal Hill takes a big leap

The light heavyweight division has a new contender in the mix.

In the main event of UFC on ESPN 40, Jamahal Hill took out former title challenger Thiago Santos in an impressive fashion. The back and forth battle ended abruptly after Hill rocked Santos on the feet and continued to throw ground and pound strikes until the fight was stopped by the referee. Hill entered the week at No. 14, but now holds the No. 7 slot with the victory.

Also on the move towards the top is welterweight Geoff Neal. In the co-main event, Neal became the first to knock out Vicente Luque, propelling him from No. 14 into the top 10 by taking the No. 9 spot.
